Position OverviewA Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse is responsible for assisting in the delivery of inmate care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Under the supervision of registered nurses, the LPN directs and guides inmate teaching and activities that match his/her education and demonstrated competencies.
EssentialJob Duties
- Assist in the assessment of the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of inmates in the Health Care Unit and housing units.
- Plan and implement individual treatment programs, using available knowledge, diagnostic tests, resources, and consultations with RNs and other staff.
- Administer medications according to proper techniques and procedures, including IV therapy when certified.
- Assist the provider in evaluations, medical procedures, and minor surgical procedures as necessary, using SOAP charting.
- Obtain body fluid specimens and perform EKGs using proper techniques.
- Maintain and document controlled substances and medical equipment.
- Intervene in various situations with proper safety techniques, procedures, and standard precautions.
- Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans as ordered by provider.
- Triage and assess healthcare requests.
- Graduate from an accredited LPN/LVN program.
- Hold current licensure as an LPN/LVN in the state of employment.
- Maintain all certifications, educational requirements, and licensing for this position.
- Hold current CPR/BLS certification.
- Hold current TB test taken within one year.
- Adhere to all facility policies and procedures, including those in the Employee Handbook.
- Assist coworkers in job duties and be willing to work overtime if required.
- Maintain confidentiality, dignity, and security of health records in compliance with HIPAA.
- Remain stationary and move throughout the facility, including up and down stairs.
- Position oneself in various spaces.
- Communicate accurately with patients.
- Identify and assess objects and situations from various distances.
- Stay calm in stressful and demanding situations.
- Transport objects up to 50 pounds.
Work is performed inside a correctional facility. Employees are exposed to some level of risk and/or harm by inmates including exposure to blood borne pathogens. Employees are expected to follow all security rules and regulations to minimize risk.
Location & ScheduleBrighton, CO – Minimum 3 shifts monthly.
