About The Department: The Livingston and Brighton Surgery department combine to 8 operating rooms and 2 procedural suites that average 50+ cases a day. Our mission is to provide the highest‑quality care to every patient who requires a surgical intervention; both during preparation for surgery and recovery from anesthesia. We care for a wide variety of service lines for same‑day discharge patients:
Otolaryngology, Plastics, General Surgery, Urology, Gynecology, Orthopedics, and Bariatrics. Our nursing staff is supported by department‑based anesthesiologists. We have the distinction of being a Robotic Center of Excellence. We are open Monday‑Friday for planned procedures and weekend on‑call coverage for emergency cases. We offer a variety of shift options and low nurse‑to‑patient ratios.

Certifications we offer: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Required Education And Licensure:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • All new hires must hold a BSN degree or agree in writing to obtain a BSN within five (5) years from the date of hire or transfer to an RN role.
  • Current Michigan Nursing License.
  • BLS.

  • Knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and age‑specific needs.
  • Interpersonal skills to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers-cert and therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Critical thinking skills to perform principal duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care.

What you will do:

  • View patients holistically, considering physical, psychosocial, emotional, age‑specific, cultural, and spiritual factors; demonstrate appropriate assessment skills for identified patient populations.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills by gathering and analyzing patient information and responding to a patient situation.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise individualized plans of care using evidence‑based interventions and standards of care. Identify needs and plan for care across the continuum, considering patient and family preferences.
  • Identify patient and family education needs; develop and implement teaching plans based on evidence‑based practice, seeking additional resources when necessary; use teach‑back methodology to ensure effective learning; identify resources to ensure readiness for discharge and collaborate with other disciplines.
  • Create an environment that promotes a positive patient experience.
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing (including EMR documentation) that is accurate, timely, concise, and thorough. Effectively communicate patient status, priority goals, and interventions to colleagues and other disciplines during consultations, rounds, and handoffs.
  • Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships; approach conflict constructively; help identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
