Pet Groomer Trainee

Pet Smart’s Pet Stylist in Training is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and best in class salon services. This position will receive training and guidance from our experienced Professional Styling teams, learning from the best in the industry on proper grooming techniques. This role also supports store cleanliness, recommends solutions for pet parents, and upholds pet safety standards.

The Pet Stylist in Training role is obtained once the associate has successfully completed the Pet Smart Grooming Academy.

• Under supervision, perform full menu of bath, brush and grooming services and standalone services (e.g., nail trims, teeth brushing, sanitary services) in accordance with Pet Smart’s bathing standards and procedures.
• Develop and display safe technical skills that meet or exceed the company’s minimum expectations.
• Recommend additional health and wellness solutions to Pet Parents based on the pet’s needs.
• Ensure a positive pet parent experience and outcomes in person, over the phone, and at the sales register.
• Greet pet parents, answer questions, and assist with making salon reservations.
• Conduct appointment reminders, maintain client records, and consult with pet parents on services offered.
• Handle check-in and check-out procedures for grooming appointments, including applicable paperwork and rebooking.
• Promote salon sales to help achieve sales targets and relevant salon metrics.
• Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise and services.
• Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions for all pets in the grooming area; perform day-end cleaning per the maintenance checklist.
• Take immediate action if a sick/injured pet is identified, including transport to the vet as needed.
• Assist and work in other departments as required. Perform other duties as assigned.
• Participate in the culture of Belonging and Recognition and follow all Company Policies and Procedures.

• Successful completion of Pet Smart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification program.
• Prior grooming experience preferred; may be asked to complete a technical exam.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
• Flexibility in schedule; able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and safety measures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Stand/walk for extended periods; climb a ladder; use hands to handle, feel, write; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch; depth perception; reasonable accommodations available.
• Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly; may occasionally move more than 100 pounds with assistance.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments with pet hair, and varying noise levels; exposure to live animals and their handling is common.
