The Aircraft Operations team is responsible for defining and predicting the way in which aircraft airframes and systems in development will be operated by airlines. We have a particular focus on ensuring that an aircraft, through engineering, continues to be operable and mature throughout its lifecycle. Every day in our team is interesting and challenging. Our work covers aspects such as daily aircraft inspections through to heavy maintenance at Maintenance and Repair Organisations and assessing the technologies that will be needed to improve these aspects for airlines.
To do this we measure how usable, reliable, available and cost effective an aircraft is at achieving these metrics today and in the future. This analysis is often undertaken via usage of our big data platform. We are a transnational, diverse & inclusive team working closely with aircraft programmes, specialist design teams and customer services on a daily basis. We value and encourage different ways of thinking and working to get the best technical solution.
Our team members are trusted and empowered to solve the challenges the business sets us.
For this internship, you will be involved in a range of activities that includes:
Developing and leading projects to support the Aircraft Operations teams who are responsible for the concept of operations of future aircraft, working directly with the teams designing the aircraft themselves;
Supporting data analytic activities, taking benefit of in-service data;
Supporting projects that directly influence the current Airbus designs, whether that be with Wing structures, Landing Gears or Fuel Systems;
Supporting the wider transnational Aircraft Operations team and interface with domains across Airbus. In addition you will also have the chance to take part in initiatives outside your day to day tasks that will provide opportunities for personal development.
- Studying for a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Data Science or equivalent
- Good IT skills and an interest in programming (e.g. Python, Java) is preferable
- Good understanding of statistics
- A keen interest in aircraft maintenance and aviation industry
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English
- Be creative and have an open mind-set with a desire to explore and learn
- Motivated with the ability to manage own activities and work with a multi-skilled, transnational team
You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
