AVID Tutor (25 - 26 SY)
Bristol Central High School is seeking an AVID tutor to work with 9th‑12th grade students in our AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program. AVID’s mission is to provide first‑generation college students with the skills and supports necessary for acceptance and success in a 4‑year college. During middle and high school, AVID students will be challenged with the most rigorous course offerings we have (accelerated, Pre‑AP, AP courses).
They will also be taking an AVID elective course which will meet every other day throughout the year to learn about strategies for success in their academic classes. One important component of this class is the tutorial sessions, which are facilitated by trained tutors to assist students with academic issues in their most rigorous courses.
The tutorial sessions are not traditional tutoring sessions; tutors act more as guides and facilitate a small group of students with similar academic needs for the day to work together to solve their own academic challenges. Tutors do not need to have experience in the field of education nor do they need to be experts in any content area. Tutors will participate in training sessions to learn how to effectively facilitate tutorials.
We are looking to recruit a tutor from area colleges and the community to assist with tutorial sessions, which are essential to the success of AVID.
On any given week, tutors will be facilitating tutorial sessions, checking AVID student binders, or assisting in the AVID elective class.
