Position is through the end of the school year.
SummaryTo help ML/EL students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Teach district approved curriculum.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
- Diagnose the learning styles of students.
- Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
- Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside of the instructional day.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Serve on faculty and curriculum committees.
- Implement an individual education program for special needs students.
Supervise classroom and students (volunteers and parent helpers where appropriate). Perform general supervisory duties as scheduled.
Qualification Requirements- You are able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Master’s Degree for certain positions (optional).
- Additional credits required for completion of certification requirements.
- TESOL 111
- Valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate.
Bilingual Spanish preferred, but not required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write memos, reports, and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, and the general public.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Computer SkillsKnowledge and experience with standard hardware and software applications. Ability to use computers for e‑mail, word processing, accounting, databases and presentations.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables when limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Apply knowledge of current research and teaching competencies to instructional programs. Plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents. Oral and written communication skill. Perform duties with awareness of district requirements, Board of Education policies, and the Code of Professional Responsibility for teachers.
Physical DemandsOften required to stand, talk or hear; sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally push or lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to adjust close vision for reading. Responsible for safety and well-being of students.
Work EnvironmentNoise level moderate to loud. Duties performed indoors and occasionally outdoors.
Salary and HoursSalary based on experience as per negotiated contract.
Hours:
8:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
