Join Bristol Public Schools as a City-Wide Elementary Art Teacher focusing on PreK-Grade 5, split between Hubbell School (.6) and Edgewood School (.4).
SummaryTo develop in each pupil an interest in and ability for creative expression, fostering aesthetic understandings and discovering pupils’ talents in art.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Teach art knowledge and skills, including mac/digital technology, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and three-dimensional art.
- Provide instruction that develops aesthetic concepts, qualitative judgments about art, and connections to global society and careers.
- Demonstrate techniques in drawing, painting, and modeling using standard and teacher‑prepared instructional aids.
- Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
- Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to students with varying abilities.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior for an orderly studio environment.
- Instruct pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment, and organize storage areas to prevent loss or abuse.
- Evaluate each pupil’s performance and growth, preparing progress reports.
- Select and requisition instructional materials and maintain inventory records.
- Plan and present art displays and exhibitions for the school and community.
- Continuously maintain professional competence through in‑service education and self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Maintain an auditable record of pupil attendance and report absences daily.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school or district level.
- Implement an individual education program for special‑needs students.
- Collaborate with community partners and resident artists to enhance student learning.
- Supervise classroom and students (volunteers and parent helpers where appropriate) and perform general supervisory duties as scheduled.
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s acceptable for certain positions).
- Valid Connecticut teaching certificate in Art (042, PK‑12).
- Experience in managing a diverse classroom and adapting curriculum.
- Strong communication skills with students, peers, and parents.
- Ability to plan and implement lessons that meet school objectives.
- Knowledge of current research and teaching competencies in art education.
- Prior experience in a studio environment with technology and hands‑on techniques.
- Mathematical skills: basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, graph interpretation.
- Computer skills: hardware, software applications, email, word processing, databases, presentations.
- Reasoning ability: solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret written/oral schedules.
- Physical demands: frequent standing, talking, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs; vision required for reading materials.
- Work environment: moderate to loud noise, indoor and occasional outdoor duties.
Salary: As per negotiated contract

Hours: 8:45 AM – 3:45 PM
