NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in General Adult Psychiatry

The role combines clinical and research training in general adult psychiatry. The successful applicant will be supported by the Centre for Academic Mental Health to develop an independent programme of research.

This post is available full‑time or part‑time (minimum 66% FTE) – to be agreed.

Responsibilities
  • Complete clinical training in general adult psychiatry, working towards core competency training (CCT) – 50%
  • Undertake academic training in psychiatry, developing an independent research programme and applying for Advanced Fellowships – 50%
  • Work in a role for a maximum of four years, or until CCT is reached, whichever occurs first. Possible extension post‑CCT within the 4‑year funding period.
Qualifications
  • Passed MRCPsych and currently at ST3 level or above.
  • Completed or submitted a higher research degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) and must have passed the PhD by 1st September 2026 at the latest.
  • Motivated to continue clinical academic training in psychiatry.
Additional Information
  • Contract type: Fixed‑term, annually renewable for up to 4 years or until CCT, whichever occurs first.
  • Work pattern: Full (40h) or part‑time (minimum 66% FTE).
  • Grade: Clinical academic / Doctor in training.
  • Salary: University of Bristol will mirror the successful applicant’s NHS pay and progression, including transitional pay.
  • School/Unit: Bristol Medical School.
  • Shift pattern: To be agreed.
