position title: substitute cafeteria worker

department: cafeteria

reports to: director/assistant director of food services

summary: to assist in the preparation and service of quality food to students in a quick and pleasant manner. Substitute worker will work at any of the schools in bristol public schools. The work assignment will be handled by the fsd office

essential duties and responsibilities: other duties may be assigned.

  • responsible for all general food preparation, serving and sanitation procedures.
  • assists in the preparation of vegetables, salads, sandwiches and other menu items.
  • assists in counter set-up and breakdown.
  • assists in serving of daily menu items.
  • responsible for sanitation in specific work areas and general kitchen cleanup.
  • performs other duties as requested by supervisors.

qualification requirements

  • to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. education and/or experience

  • high school diploma or general education degree (ged) preferred.
  • previous experience with large-scale cooking and food preparation/serving.
language skills

  • ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.
mathematical skills

  • ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of american currency and weight measurements, volume and distance.
computer skills

  • basic knowledge and experience with job related computer hardware and software applications.
reasoning ability

  • ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
other skills and abilities

  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and board of education policies.
