Under the direction of the Dean of the Extension School, the Continuing Education (CE) Instructor is responsible for conducting non-degree professional certificate programs, courses, and seminars for non-credit individuals and organizations through Roger Williams University s Extension School. We seek a knowledgeable and dedicated instructor to teach in our DLT-approved Electrical Apprenticeship Program. The instructor will deliver related training instruction (RTI) to apprentices working toward their Journeyperson "B" Electrician license.
This part-time role is ideal for a licensed electrician who is passionate about mentoring and preparing the next generation of professionals in the electrical trade.
- Deliver engaging, high-quality instruction aligned with the Rhode Island Department of Labor & Training (DLT) apprenticeship standards.
- Teach approximately 150 hours of related instruction over the academic year, plus additional hours of preparation.
- Attend 3-5 administrative/program review meetings a year.
- Provide students with instruction in both theory and application of electrical concepts, safety practices, and trade skills.
- Manage classroom dynamics effectively to ensure a professional, respectful, and safe learning environment.
- Maintain accurate attendance and grade records in accordance with program policies.
- Collaborate with program administrators to ensure curriculum compliance and student success.
- Foster an inclusive and respectful classroom environment that supports diverse learners.
- Journeyperson "B" or Master Electrician license in Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts (required).
- Minimum 5 years of field experience in the electrical trade (preferred).
- Prior teaching, training, or supervisory experience (strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to manage classroom dynamics and support diverse learners.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Commitment to student success and workforce development.
- 40-hour NCCER Craft Instructor training (will be provided upon hire, if not yet completed).
- Comfort using basic computer applications for attendance, grades, and communication (or willingness to learn).
At the University s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
