Job Description Advising and Student Success- Provide direct, one‑on‑one and group advising support to an assigned caseload of first‑year students.
- Meet regularly with each assigned advisee to assist and/or guide the process of choosing courses, major and minor programs and addressing other student needs as appropriate.
- Refer students to campus and external resources for career, social, financial and academic advice, as appropriate.
- Serve as a member of the student success team, with a particular focus on providing front‑line services to students who need academic support.
- Coordinate the office’s matriculation processes, including withdrawals and reinstatements.
- Assist students with completing necessary paperwork and explain university and federal policies as they relate to leaves/reinstatements.
- Work collaboratively with faculty advisors to improve the quality of student advising and ensure a seamless transition to the student’s major.
- Work closely with the Admissions and Registrar Offices to review student transfer credits and work with Deans to maximize degree requirements.
- Provide advisement training to various constituencies.
- Assist in the creation of materials to use for enrollment, recruitment and other processes.
- Work with students who are making progress to reach satisfactory academic standing.
- Serve as an advisor in the Academic Skills Enrichment Program (ASEP) for first‑year students and advise students who have been placed on academic probation.
- Assist transfer students in the development of an educational plan, including clarifying educational goals and choosing a program of study.
- Present advising and career exploration workshops, serve as lead facilitator and create materials in support of these workshops.
- Keep electronic records of advising sessions.
- Participate in ongoing and periodic assessment of advising services with the goal of continuous improvement in office operations.
- Utilize the Civitas platform to inform work for the undecided population and use the data to inform decision making and make recommendations for action.
- Collaborate with faculty and others on programs and projects that support the mission of the Center for Student Academic Success, as assigned by the Director.
- Build relationships with academic departments to create collaborative efforts toward student success.
- Work collaboratively with the Director to analyze and interpret data as it relates to retention and success.
- Serve on a variety of university committees, representing the Advising and Peer Mentorship Office.
- Represent the Center for Student Academic Success at enrollment, recruitment and university events, as assigned.
- Master’s degree in a field related to academic advising, such as higher education administration, college student personnel, or education.
- Five years of higher education experience with direct responsibility in student advising.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in student development theory, application of academic advising models, and resources.
- Demonstrated ability with technology, including Microsoft Office applications, student management systems, and willingness to learn platforms the university employs.
- Demonstrated understanding of best practices in higher education as they relate to student success work, including high‑impact practices, first and second‑year programming, and inclusion.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Track record of successfully working in a team‑based, fast‑paced, student‑focused environment.
- Comfortable handling sensitive, complex, and time‑critical situations.
- Possess flexibility, a sense of humor, and a passion for student development work.
- Supervisory experience.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize work, and display an achievement orientation to meet goals.
- Demonstrated leadership in the areas of academic advising, career exploration, and academic skill development.
