This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical design engineer who wants greater responsibility across the full project life cycle. You will work on a varied portfolio of new-build, refurbishment and improvement projects, ranging from initial surveys and feasibility studies through to detailed design, construction support and handover.

The position offers a strong balance of technical design, project delivery and client engagement. You will manage the mechanical elements of multiple projects while working collaboratively with engineers, consultants, contractors and other project stakeholders.

Produce and review calculations, drawings, schematics, specifications, equipment schedules and technical reports.

Take responsibility for the mechanical delivery of allocated projects from initial survey and concept stages through to detailed design, tender and construction.

Manage several concurrent projects in line with agreed programmes, budgets and fee allowances.

Attend client meetings, provide clear technical advice and communicate project progress effectively.

Undertake site surveys and assess the condition, performance and suitability of existing building services installations.

Advise on refurbishment, plant replacement, energy efficiency and building performance improvements.

Coordinate designs with electrical engineers, architects, structural engineers, contractors and specialist consultants.

Review contractor proposals, technical submissions and tender returns.

Respond to technical queries and provide support during construction, commissioning and handover.

Check technical information and contribute to the quality and consistency of project delivery.

Support and share knowledge with junior engineers and other members of the team.

Proven experience in mechanical building services design, preferably within a UK consultancy environment.

The ability to develop, coordinate and review mechanical designs independently.

Competence using relevant mechanical design and calculation software.

Experience producing or reviewing CAD drawings.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

A practical, organised and commercially aware approach to project delivery.

A relevant degree, HNC, HND or equivalent experience in mechanical or building services engineering.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits and client meetings.

You will ideally have:

Existing building, refurbishment or occupied-site projects.

Low-carbon heating, decarbonisation or energy-improvement schemes.

Revit, IES VE or similar modelling software.

Membership of CIBSE or another relevant professional institution.

IEng or CEng registration, or an interest in working towards professional accreditation.

What you'll get in returnA competitive salary and benefits package.

Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.

Exposure to a varied portfolio of building services projects.
