Maternity Ward Clerk - Central Delivery Suite

We are seeking a friendly, professional, and welcoming patient-facing Ward Clerk to join our Central Delivery Suite team. In this role, you will provide high-quality administrative, clerical, and reception support.
A flexible approach to working hours is essential to meet the demands of the service and the team you are working with. This permanent role offers 22 hours per week, with scope to increase to 33 hours per week for an initial six-month period, followed by a review.
Main duties of the jobCommunication
:
- liaise with patients, clinical staff, GPs and Trust support staff in person, by telephone, and email as necessary
- show a caring and professional approach towards patients and visitors when carrying out all duties
- elevate patient queries, capacity problems and general issues to the line manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate
- welcome and assist patients, relatives and visitors on arrival to the ward and inform appropriate staff; cope with distressed patients and relatives professionally and empathetically
Organising and Planning
:
- ensure all clinical results and other clinical information are accurately filed in patient notes and that notes are current, maintained according to Trust standards
- ensure patient records are appropriately received and transferred and trace all notes into and out of the ward
- prepare patient notes for coding within deadlines set by the coding team
- carry out associated clerical duties such as maintaining filing systems, photocopying, receiving and distributing post, diary management, and scanning patient notes as required
- perform role duties in the event of a major incident in the department
- Educated to GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths
- Previous reception or customer-facing experience in a healthcare or public setting
- Clerical/administration experience including filing and/or reception
- Previous NHS experience
- Excellent professional telephone/reception manner
- Flexible approach to duties
- Work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining high accuracy
- Communicate clearly and act quickly in emergencies
- Good IT skills including Microsoft packages
- Tidy and methodical working practice
- Work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others
- Work independently and as part of a team
- Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives and carers
