Band 2 – Division of Medicine, Welcome Centre – Bristol Royal Infirmary, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW).
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Patient Access Clerk to join the team based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. The role is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to UHBW 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including bank holidays such as Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
The post holder will have excellent organisational skills, a keen eye for detail and exceptional customer service and communication skills. The successful candidate must be able to work under pressure, demonstrate team and lone working experience, meet deadlines and possess strong IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook). Previous NHS or hospital experience would be an advantage, although full training will be provided.
Mainduties of the job
- Handle enquiry from patients and staff who display challenging behaviour with empathy.
- Manage sensitive verbal and written information confidentially and professionally, ensuring attention to detail.
- Locate and deliver medical records for all elective and emergency admissions within the BRI site.
- Pre‑admit patients to the hospital’s critical care departments so that records can be uploaded before arrival.
- Support the emailing/posting of discharge summaries for patients discharged to GP practices lacking access to the Clinical Document Service or where the GP is unknown.
- Serve as the communication hub and main point of contact for all patient movement during PAS downtime, reverting to other records and uploading information when PAS returns.
- Provide clerical support to the clinical site management team.
- Experience using computers, including Microsoft Office packages.
- Experience dealing with the general public.
- Ability to work as part of a team.

- Previous NHS experience.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
