Receptionist/Clerical Officer – Outpatients

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to become a member of our Outpatient Reception team at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, within the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
This role is a 37.5‑hour week spread across the five Outpatient Reception areas. Duties include greeting patients and their families, clinic preparation and general clerical duties under the supervision of the Outpatient Reception Team Leader.
Main duties of the job- Communicate in person, by telephone, and via email with wards, clinical staff, GPs, and Trust support staff as required.
- Show a caring and professional approach toward patients and visitors when carrying out reception and appointment duties.
- Escalate patient queries, capacity problems and general issues to the line manager or relevant clinical staff.
- Deal with distressed patients and relatives empathetically, demonstrating resilience.
- Previous receptionist experience in a healthcare or public setting.
- Previous NHS experience.
- Clerical/administration experience including filing and/or reception.
- GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths.
- Supportive.
- Respectful.
- Excellent telephone and reception manner.
- Flexible approach to duties.
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
- Good IT skills including Microsoft Office.
- Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives and carers.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
