An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Procurement and Category Management professional to join a large, complex public sector organisation undergoing significant transformation. As the function continues to embed a category‑led approach aligned to a long‑term 2030 strategy, this role offers the chance to shape and influence how procurement delivers strategic value across Estates, Commercial Services, Business Services and IT
.
With responsibility for £100m to £120m of non‑pay expenditure, the team plays a critical role in driving value for money, supporting capital and revenue programmes, and championing sustainability and equality initiatives. This is a high‑visibility position within a forward‑thinking organisation where procurement is recognised as a strategic enabler, not a back‑office function.
Responsibilities
:
- Lead category management activity across key business pillars, aligning plans to organisational strategy
- Develop, implement and continuously review category strategies and sourcing plans
- Deliver end‑to‑end tender processes, from market engagement through to contract award
- Manage supplier relationships and performance to ensure commercial and service outcomes are achieved
- Provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders, building strong internal partnerships and securing buy‑in
- Ensure compliance with UK public procurement regulations and governance requirements
- Contribute to the delivery of sustainability, social value and equality objectives through procurement activity
Requirements
:
- Proven experience in UK public sector procurement and category management
- Strong understanding of public procurement regulations and compliant sourcing routes
- Experience managing complex procurements within multi‑stakeholder environments
- Demonstrable ability to deliver end‑to‑end tenders and manage contracts effectively
- Highly organised, self‑motivated and able to manage competing priorities with confidence
