Assistant Quantity Surveyor

To support the Quantity Surveyor and wider Commercial Team in the effective financial and contractual management of construction projects, assisting with the control of project costs, procurement, valuations, variations, payments and reporting.
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will develop their commercial knowledge and experience while working closely with Quantity Surveyors, Site Managers, subcontractors, suppliers and other members of the project team to help ensure projects are delivered successfully, commercially and in accordance with Oakland Construction’s standards and procedures.

• Assist the Quantity Surveyor with the day-to-day commercial management of construction projects.
• Assist with monitoring project costs, budgets and expenditure.
• Assist with maintaining accurate cost records and commercial documentation.
• Assist with preparing and updating project financial reports and forecasts.
• Identify and report potential commercial risks, cost pressures and opportunities to the Quantity Surveyor.
• Assist with the preparation of cost/value reconciliations and project financial information.
• Develop an understanding of project financial performance and commercial reporting.

• An interest in Main Contracting, Building & Construction.
• Good numerical and analytical skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Good attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise workload.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
• A willingness to learn and develop within the role.
• Previous experience within the construction industry.
• Experience in a commercial or Quantity Surveying environment.
• Relevant qualification or study towards a Quantity Surveying / Construction Management qualification.
• Knowledge of construction methods, materials and processes.
• Experience using construction or commercial management software.
