Great places don't happen by accident!

They start with great design, and someone making sure that design works.

As one of the UK's largest regeneration projects, Brabazon is transforming the former Filton Airfield into a thriving new town for Bristol.

We're looking for a Design Manager to join YTL Developments and play a key role at Brabazon.

This is an opportunity to get right into the detail of the design, working across the pre-construction and construction stages to make sure information is coordinated, compliant, delivered on time and, importantly, buildable.

You'll bring together designers, consultants, stakeholders and the wider project team, challenging where needed, spotting opportunities and helping turn ambitious ideas into reality.

If you like big projects, complex design challenges and being at the heart of where design meets delivery, this could be the role for you.

What you'll do

You'll take a leading role in managing design information throughout the project, keeping the design moving and making sure the right information reaches the right people at the right time.

You will:

  • review, monitor and challenge design information to ensure it meets project requirements, standards and regulations while delivering best value
  • develop and monitor the design programme, keeping it aligned with the wider delivery programme
  • work closely with the client team, stakeholders, designers and consultants
  • lead and support design team meetings, keeping actions moving and issues from becoming problems
  • identify design risks, opportunities and potential value improvements
  • support project-specific accreditation and approval processes
  • make sure designers understand and meet their responsibilities under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • work collaboratively with the wider project team to make sure design and construction stay connected.

Essentially, you'll be one of the people making sure what looks great on paper works just as well on site.

What you'll need

We're looking for someone who knows their way around major construction projects and is comfortable asking the right questions when something doesn't quite stack up.

You'll ideally bring:

  • a proven background working on major projects with a main contractor
  • strong technical knowledge of design and construction processes
  • a relevant qualification in Engineering, Architecture or another technical design discipline
  • experience using Viewpoint (formerly 4

    Projects)
  • experience with technical design software such as Autodesk AutoCAD, alongside Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • the confidence to work across multiple disciplines and stakeholders while keeping a very close eye on the detail.

This is a site-based role, so you'll also need a valid driving licence.

What you'll receive
  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • A car allowance.
  • Performance-related bonus.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
