Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology and Lead for Gynaecological Oncology Research

The appointment is for a substantive 10 PA Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology and lead for gynaecological oncology research. The post is based at St Michael's Hospital.

The appointee will be an experienced Gynaecological Oncology clinician who has completed sub‑specialty training in Gynaecological Oncology. The appointee will have experience of leading national trials and track record in obtaining research funding. Additional ATSMs complementary to the existing department would be welcomed.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate as a full team‑member of the tertiary Gynaecological Oncology team. Experience in HIPEC and robotic surgery would be desirable.

The post holder will be expected to participate in emergency "hot week" cover, and there is a non‑resident (1 in 15) on call covering Gynaecology only.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to provide inpatient and outpatient care to patients referred with suspected gynaecological cancer pathways and cervical cancer screening pathways in liaison with Bristol Gynaecological Cancer Centre. These will include treatment of early‑stage endometrial cancers and microinvasive cervical cancers. In addition, successful candidate will also provide acute and elective gynaecological care to patients attending St Michael's Hospital in conjunction with the current consultants.

He / she should have expertise at consultant level in general gynaecological surgery covering both elective and emergency procedures.

Person Specification Qualifications & Training
  • Certification of completion of specialist training (CCT) (or equivalent, OR Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) at the point of interview
  • Candidates can be within 6 months of gaining CCT at the date of interview. Please note this does not apply to CESR applications
  • Must be on the GMC's Specialist Register for to start Consultant appointment
  • Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent
Experience
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Gynaecology
  • Subspecialty training in Gynaecology Oncology
  • Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
  • Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust's service strategy
