Job Summary
Consultant Anaesthetist – Fixed Term (6 months, with potential for extension). Full time.
Location:
Southmead Hospital, Bristol. Salary: per annum.
Applications are invited for an exciting fixed term post at North Bristol NHS Trust. The post holder will have a varied programme covering a range of services dictated by their clinical interest and expertise. The Anaesthetic department is accredited and is going through re‑accreditation.
Key Responsibilities- Provide anaesthetic care across the following specialities: vascular, regional anaesthesia, colorectal, urology, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, burns, burns, plastics, obstetric, and pain clinic.
- Support trauma and plastic surgery with regional anaesthesia services.
- Lead the colorectal centre’s Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) services.
- Contribute to the multidisciplinary care of the major trauma and bariatric units.
- Participate in research and clinical trials, particularly in neurosciences and spinal surgery.
- Manage on‑call duties in proximity to Southmead Hospital (within 30 minutes by road).
- MB BS (or equivalent).
- Full registration with the GMC.
- CCT in Anaesthesia and registration on the GMC Specialist Register at appointment; within six months of award if not yet obtained.
- Higher academic qualification such as MD or MS.
- Diploma or higher in teaching, or equivalent.
- European Diploma in Regional Anaesthesia.
- Minimum of 6 years postgraduate experience, including three years as a registrar.
- Experience in UK hospital systems and practices.
- Evidence of extensive experience in sub‑specialties (regional, obstetrics, neuro, POAC, general).
- CME training and audit project participation.
- Knowledge of contemporary NHS management and political context.
- Proven teaching ability for medical under‑graduates and postgraduates.
- Track record of research and peer‑reviewed publications.
- Effective communication skills with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
- Leadership ability and ability to work effectively within a team.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.
