Position: Cardiac Lead for Southwest Maternal Medicine Network

Job Overview

Applicants are invited to apply for a one-year fixed‑term role (with likely extension) as Cardiac Lead for the South West Maternal Medicine Network (SWMMN). The role is suited to an applicant with a CCT in obstetrics and a strong interest in the care of cardiology patients. The role is 1PAs and commences in March 2026 for an initial year.

Main Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate leadership in cardiology maternal medicine, including education and care plans.
  • Liaise with SWMMN obstetric, medical, anaesthetic, midwifery, cardiology and governance leads about cardiology patients and care plans.
  • Attend the Cardiology multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss cardiology patient care plans as required.
Qualifications
  • CCT (or equivalent)
  • Maintain full registration with the GMC.
Desirable
  • Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS).
Training and Experience
  • Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
  • Experience in cardiology.
Further Training, Management, Audit
  • Evidence of recent CME or reasonable training progression.
  • Experience in audit projects and written reports.
  • Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues.
  • Knowledge of the political context within which we operate.
Research, Teaching, Publications
  • Proven teaching ability.
  • Willingness to undertake teaching of medical undergraduates and postgraduates.
  • Willingness to undertake further research.
  • Ability to gain the trust and confidence of colleagues and patients.
  • Evidence of relevant publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management.
Personal Requirements
  • Good written communication skills; ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and develop junior medical staff.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of the Women and Childen’s Directorate.
  • Flexibility and ability to fulfil the duties of the post, including on‑call commitments.
