About the Role

As a locum Consultant in Haematology, you’ll provide expert care and contribute to the delivery of high-quality services.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert clinical care for patients with malignant and non‑malignant haematological conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Lead and manage haematology clinics, including new patient assessments, follow‑up reviews, and treatment planning.
  • Oversee inpatient care on the haematology ward, offering senior clinical decision‑making, ward rounds, and multidisciplinary input.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, contributing specialist opinion on diagnosis, management, and treatment pathways.
  • Interpret and report specialist haematological investigations, including blood films, bone marrow aspirates/biopsies, and coagulation studies.
  • Support the delivery and governance of transfusion services, including management of complex transfusion cases and advice to clinicians.
  • Provide on‑call haematology cover (as required), offering urgent advice for bleeding, clotting disorders, haemato‑oncology emergencies, and transfusion issues.
  • Contribute to safe prescribing and monitoring of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other haematological treatments in line with local and national guidelines.
  • Supervise and train junior medical staff, specialist nurses, and other members of the haematology team.
  • Ensure accurate clinical documentation, coding, and communication with GPs and referring teams.
  • Participate in clinical governance activities, including audit, incident review, morbidity/mortality meetings, and quality improvement.
  • Engage in service development to support pathway improvements and maintain high standards of patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with professional revalidation requirements and uphold the standards of the GMC and relevant specialty bodies.
What We’re Looking For

MBBS or equivalent medical degree

Full GMC registration with a licence to practise

A current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or PVG check - or a willingness to undergo one as part of the registration process

UK Right to Work

Strong communication and team working skills

CCT in Haematology (or within 6 months of achieving it)
