Head of Humanities

Pay: Approx. £210 – £300 per day (dependent on experience, inclusive of leadership allowance)
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-time, 32.5 hours per week

This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced Humanities teacher ready to take the next step into middle leadership, or an existing Head of Department looking for a fresh challenge.

As Head of Humanities, you’ll lead teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4, shaping a curriculum that sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and drives strong outcomes. You’ll guide assessment, support excellent classroom practice, and create a collaborative, ambitious culture within the department.

History experience is welcomed and encouraged, but applications from across all Humanities specialisms are very much encouraged.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Leading the Humanities curriculum across KS3 and KS4
  • Supporting and inspiring a team of dedicated teachers
  • Driving progress through thoughtful use of data and targeted interventions
  • Embedding inclusive practice so every student feels supported and challenged
  • Playing a key role in the wider life and leadership of the school
About you

You’ll bring:

  • Strong subject knowledge across Humanities and a clear understanding of curriculum development
  • Proven classroom experience at KS3 and KS4, with evidence of strong outcomes
  • The ability to lead, motivate, and support colleagues with confidence and empathy
  • Clear communication and organisation skills, you know how to bring people with you
  • A reflective mindset and a genuine commitment to professional development
  • A strong belief in inclusion, equality, and safeguarding, always putting students first

This is a well-established 11–16 secondary school with a close relationship to a post-16 provision on the same site, creating a wider 11–18 community feel. The school serves a diverse intake and places real value on inclusion, student voice, and community.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
