Children and Families Minister
Salary: £26,000-£29,000 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Christ Church, Fulwood
VisionChrist Church’s vision statement is: “Connecting people to Jesus Christ and to each other.” This role is to do this in relation to children and young people and their families through expanding our existing work and developing new relationships.
AboutChrist Church is a moderately sized church fellowship that suffered a large dip in Covid but is recovering. We sit in the open evangelical tradition with a mix of modern and traditional worship.
Fulwood is quite a mixed parish with a fairly large and growing Muslim population. We have one state Primary School (Kennington) in the parish and one Church Secondary School (Archbishop Temple School). The other schools are faith based but not Church of England. We also have regular contact with Longsands Primary School, though it is just outside the parish.
We have Junior Church or Messy Church most Sundays with the second Sunday being All Age Worship. Junior Church is our children’s provision during Sunday morning worship. We have about 11 children and 9 young people on the books though attendance varies enormously week by week. Messy Church replaces Junior Church once a month and takes a freer, more craft based approach.
Both are led by the same core of 3 lay leaders with support from 3 others. We take regular assemblies at both Kennington and Longsands Primary schools and lead a fortnightly After School Worship for families at Longsands in termtime.
The Children and Families Minister will develop relationships with families in the church and across the parish, witnessing to the love of Jesus in what they say and do.
As part of the Diocese of Blackburn’s Ignite Project, the role will help grow a thriving; community of young people and create pathways to faith. Through this project, our aim is to increase the number of children and young people engaged in active discipleship and raise up local leaders within our churches and communities.
The Children and Families Minister will work with our existing families and Primary School aged children in current church settings, build on existing relationships with schools and community groups and reach out to new families.
This post would suit someone who has previous experience of children’s ministry, either paid or voluntary. The post would be well supported by the line manager, and church community, as well as the Ignite Project Mentor, the Ignite Leaders Community and where theological training is involved, Emmanuel College. As well as the line manager there will be a mentor / dedicated pastoral support person offered within the church.
