Outreach SEN Tutor - Newham East London - 20 hours per week (4 hours a day Monday to Friday)
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and experienced SEN Outreach Tutor to support a female learner with high Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference by providing personalised, one-to-one support in a tailored learning environment.
Role OverviewYou will deliver structured, engaging sessions designed to meet the learner's individual educational, emotional, and social needs. The focus will be on building trust, promoting independence, and supporting academic progress at a pace suited to the learner.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver personalised learning sessions aligned with the learner's EHCP or individual targets
- Adapt teaching strategies to suit sensory preferences and communication style
- Support emotional regulation and help develop coping strategies
- Build a positive, consistent relationship to encourage engagement and confidence
- Work collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's care
- Monitor and report on progress, adjusting approaches as needed
- Proven experience working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ideally in an outreach or tutoring capacity.
- Knowledge of different SEN categories (e.g., autism, dyslexia, ADHD, speech and language needs).
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and school staff.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to a wide range of learning needs.
- A proactive and solution-focused approach to problem-solving.
- A passion for education and helping children achieve their full potential.
- A teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS) or relevant SEN training (e.g., SENDCO, SEN TA experience) is desirable but not essential.
