Position: Maths Students - Cover Supervisor Work in Secondary

Protocol Education works with secondary schools across Bristol and Somerset to provide confident, reliable Cover Supervisors. We're looking for Maths university students
who want flexible, paid work that fits around university commitments while developing valuable leadership, communication and people-management skills.

We regularly work with students from the University of Bristol and UWE Bristol
, with many progressing into long-term school placements or teacher training. Our best Cover Supervisors are friendly, always making good impressions on those around them. Our best Cover Supervisors are naturally confident with children and teenagers; you will be outgoing and calm, and have a resilience rooted in emotional intelligence and empathy. If you lack experience, we are eager to have you begin as a Teaching Assistant, and work your way up to Cover Supervisor bookings.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor
, you'll step into the classroom when a teacher is absent. Your job isn't to teach new content. Instead, you'll supervise lessons
, deliver the work that's already been prepared and create a calm, focused learning environment.

While you'll often be placed in Maths lessons
, you'll also cover a range of other subjects. That's completely normal. This is a classroom management role, so you don't need to be an expert in every subject. You'll:

  • Deliver pre-planned lesson activities
  • Explain instructions clearly and confidently
  • Keep students focused, engaged and on task
  • Build positive, professional relationships with pupils
  • Adapt to different classrooms and school environments
What you'll receive
  • £100 to £115 per day (paid weekly)
  • Flexible work across Bristol and Somerset (in convenient locations for you)
  • Schools matched as closely as possible to where you live
  • No driving required

Work flexibly, 2 to 5 days per week

Fit work around university deadlines, lectures and exams

FREE training, including Thrive and Behaviour Support

Local school placements

Build a CV packed with transferable skills

Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant

Opportunities to move into long-term roles or teacher training

We'd love to hear from you if you are:
  • A Maths student or graduate, or studying a related subject
  • A confident communicator
  • Calm, adaptable, resilient and friendly
  • Interested in supporting young people
  • Looking to gain valuable experience alongside your studies

Experience in tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work or volunteering is helpful, but not essential.

You must have the right to work in the UK.

To complete your registration, you'll need:
