We are recruiting for an SEN Cover Supervisor to join a welcoming and progressive specialist school in Bristol. The school supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), learning difficulties and communication needs. The school is committed to creating a positive, inclusive environment where every student is encouraged to develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes during teacher absences, ensuring students remain engaged with pre-planned work while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment. You will also play an important pastoral role, helping students regulate their emotions, build positive relationships and overcome barriers to learning. Every day presents new challenges and opportunities, making this an ideal role for someone who is adaptable, resilient and passionate about supporting young people.
The school offers excellent support, ongoing training and a collaborative team culture. This position would suit graduates, aspiring teachers, youth workers, support workers, teaching assistants or individuals with experience working with children and young people in education, care or community settings.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver pre-planned lessons and learning activities in the teacher's absence
Support students with Autism, SEMH and additional learning needs
Promote positive behaviour and engagement within the classroom
Build strong relationships with pupils and staff
Provide pastoral and emotional support where required
Maintain a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
Work closely with teaching and support staff to meet students' individual needs
The Ideal Candidate
Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults
Confident managing groups and maintaining a positive learning environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Patient, resilient and adaptable
Passionate about supporting young people to achieve their potential
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable
