The Role:The SENCo is responsible forthe strategic leadership, coordination and development of SEND provision acrossthe Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle, ensuring that pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) receive high-quality, inclusive and effective support enabling them to achieve their full academic, social andemotional potential.
The SENCo will ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice (2015), the Equality Act 2010 and Independent School Standards, while promoting a culture of inclusion and high expectations throughout the school community.
The SENCo willwork closely with Heads of Year, School Directors and other key staff as partof the school’s inclusive learning support provision. While the SENCo maintainsstrategic oversight and coordination of SEND provision across the school, theywill collaborate with pastoral and academic teams to ensure the effective delivery of targeted support and interventions for pupils with additionallearning needs.
This structure reflects theschool’s commitment to combining strong strategic leadership with responsiveday-to-day specialist support for pupils and staff.
Role andKey Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Lead the development, implementation and evaluation ofthe school’s SEND policy.
- Promote an inclusive culture and high expectations forpupils with SEND.
- Contribute to the School Development Plan and wider school improvement priorities.
- Monitor the effectiveness of SEND provision throughdata analysis and pupil progress tracking.
- Advise the Senior Leadership Team and Governors onSEND matters.
- Promote best practice in inclusive teaching and learning across the school.
- Coordinate the early identification and assessment ofpupils with SEND.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date SEND register.
- Oversee SEND support plans and pupil profiles.
- Ensure appropriate interventions are implemented,monitored and reviewed.
- Coordinate exam access arrangements where appropriate.
- Monitor pupil progress and adapt provisionaccordingly.
- Support teachers with adaptive teaching strategies and appropriate differentiation.
- Ensure pupils with SEND have full access to the curriculum and wider school life.
- Promote pupil wellbeing, confidence and independence.
- Support transition arrangements between key stages and schools.
- Work collaboratively with pastoral teams to supportemotional and social development.
- Encourage pupil voice and participation in supportplanning where appropriate.
- Support and guide families through EHCP applications and wider external support pathways where appropriate, enabling them to achievestrong educational, social and emotional outcomes.
- Provide guidance and training to teaching and support staff on inclusive classroom practice.
- Support teachers with differentiation and adaptiveteaching strategies.
- Lead SEND-related INSET and continuing professional development.
- Oversee the implementation of targeted intervention sand support strategies.
- Coordinate effectively with Heads of Year, School Directors, teachers and support staff to ensure continuity of provision andpupil progress.
- Build strong and constructive relationships with parents and carers.
- Act as the mainpoint of contact for SEND-related matters.
- Liaise with educational psychologists, therapists, local authorities and external agencies.
- Coordinate annualreviews and EHCP processes where relevant.
- Ensure parentsare kept informed of pupil progress and support strategies.
- Promote aculture of early identification and inclusive safeguarding for vulnerablepupils.
- Ensure the school remains compliant with statutorySEND requirements.
- Maintain accurate records andconfidential documentation.
- Work closely with safeguarding leads to ensure appropriate support for vulnerable pupils.
- Keep up to date with developments in SEND legislation and best practice.
40h per week over 40 weeks per annum(1600h per annum) according to a time table set by your manager.
