Are you brilliant at building relationships with young people who can be difficult to reach?

I am recruiting for experienced Behaviour & Engagement Mentors to work within mainstream secondary schools across Central Bristol
, supporting students who may be struggling with behaviour, emotional regulation or engagement with education.

This role is about looking beyond the behaviour and understanding the young person behind it
. You could be supporting students who become frustrated quickly, struggle to remain engaged in lessons or need additional intervention to help them have a positive experience of school.

Schools are looking for people who bring a calm presence, clear boundaries and plenty of resilience
, while building the trusting relationships needed to help students make positive changes.

As a Behaviour & Engagement Mentor
, you may:

• Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group mentoring
• Support students displaying challenging or unpredictable behaviour
• Help young people regulate emotions and manage frustration
• Re-engage students who have lost confidence or motivation in education
• Deliver targeted behaviour, wellbeing and engagement interventions
• Support students within classrooms, inclusion hubs and pastoral spaces
• Use positive behaviour and de-escalation strategies
• Build consistent, professional relationships with students
• Support successful transitions back into lessons following incidents
• Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams and senior staff

Students may:

• Have SEMH or additional needs
• Struggle with emotional regulation or impulsivity
• Become easily frustrated or heightened
• Display challenging, op positional or unpredictable behaviour
• Have poor attendance or engagement with learning
• Be at risk of suspension or exclusion
• Need a trusted adult who can provide consistency, encouragement and accountability

Behaviour can vary from day to day, so you'll need to be someone who is not easily phased and doesn't take challenging moments personally

Skilled at de-escalating situations and knowing when a student needs space

Adaptable to different personalities, behaviours and emotions

Reliable and committed to becoming a consistent presence for students

Passionate about helping young people re-engage with education

Previous experience supporting young people is highly desirable, particularly within:

• Behaviour Mentoring
• Youth Work
• SEMH Support
• Teaching Assistant / LSA roles
• Pastoral Support
• Alternative Provision
• Residential Children's Services
• Family Support
• Sports Coaching and Mentoring
• Community or Outreach Work
• SEND Support

You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional school-based career.
