Special Needs / Learning Disabilities, Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional
November is often when schools need an extra pair of hands, a listening ear, and a positive role model. Protocol Education is working with welcoming primary schools looking for enthusiastic and compassionate Learning Mentors who can help children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
This isn't just another classroom role. It's about building trust, boosting confidence, celebrating small wins, and helping children believe in themselves.
Whether your experience comes from education, youth work, residential care, sports coaching, mental health support, psychology, creative arts, or simply working closely with young people, your skills could make a huge difference.
What Does a Learning Mentor Do?No two days are the same, but you could find yourself:
- Supporting children on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
- Helping pupils manage emotions, behaviour and social interactions
- Encouraging confidence, independence and resilience
- Supporting children with SEMH, ASD, ADHD and additional learning needs
- Working alongside teachers to adapt learning and create positive outcomes
- Celebrating achievements, no matter how big or small
- Being a trusted adult who helps children feel safe, valued and understood
- Turning challenging moments into opportunities for growth
We're searching for someone who:
- Brings positivity, patience and empathy every day
- Can stay calm when things don't go to plan
- Loves building relationships with children
- Is resilient, adaptable and proactive
- Understands that behaviour is often a form of communication
- Thinks creatively to help learning engage and inspire
- Wants to genuinely make a difference in a child's life
Experience supporting children with SEMH, SEN, ASD or ADHD is highly valued, but your attitude, personality and willingness to learn are just as important.
Why You'll Love This RoleOne day you could be helping a child regulate their emotions after a tricky morning.
The next, you'll be celebrating as that same child puts their hand up in class for the very first time.
These moments may seem small, but they can be life-changing.
As a Learning Mentor, you'll be supporting children who need someone in their corner, helping them develop confidence, self-belief and the tools they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
