We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join our dynamic Building Services Engineering team. This role offers the chance to contribute to multidisciplinary projects, collaborating closely with building physicists, sustainability and energy consultants, carbon specialists, and BIM modellers. Our team is part of a broader regional network that includes civil, structural, fire, acoustics, specialist lighting, and other engineering disciplines.
As a Senior Engineer, you will play an integral role throughout all phases of our projects—from initial feasibility studies through to final completion—across a diverse range of sectors. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience in the Science sector. Your engineering expertise will be instrumental in shaping projects that align with our commitment to achieving net zero carbon outcomes.
Working in an interdisciplinary environment, you will help design buildings that deliver maximum value to clients while minimising environmental impact. You will provide technical leadership to the MEP team across local, national, and international projects, ensuring that sound engineering principles are applied and tasks are executed effectively.
In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will be expected to demonstrate strong project management capabilities. This includes overseeing financial performance, managing client relationships, and handling commercial matters such as fees and contracts. You will also be responsible for ensuring efficient project delivery through effective team management and delegation, reporting directly to the Project Director.
Furthermore, you will contribute to the ongoing digital transformation of our business. This involves exploring innovative ways to enhance efficiency through automation and expanding our service offerings via an integrated digital approach to design.
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.
Isthis role right for you?
We’re looking for a candidate who:
- Holds a degree in Mechanical, Building Services, or Architectural Engineering, and has achieved Chartered Engineer status through a recognised professional institution such as IMechE or CIBSE.
- Brings extensive experience in successfully winning and delivering a diverse portfolio of projects, demonstrating both technical excellence and commercial awareness.
- Provides confident technical leadership to multidisciplinary design teams, including coordination with external sub-consultants, ensuring collaborative and high-quality project outcomes.
- Maintains a strong understanding of sector-specific legislation, regulatory frameworks, and design guidance, with an ability to anticipate and adapt to emerging trends and future requirements.
- Demonstrates a clear commitment to sustainable building design, with in-depth knowledge of energy and carbon considerations and the ability to meet associated regulatory standards.
