Overview
An exciting opportunity within the Geomatics team of the National Monitoring Survey. The role involves developing and extending spatial analysis and remote‑sensing capabilities using GIS, EO and geospatial data management techniques.
Responsibilities- Perform spatial data analysis in ESRI ArcGIS Pro and automate workflows with R/Python and ArcGIS Model Builder.
- Manage geospatial data across file geodatabases, geopackages and other formats, ensuring data quality, metadata compliance and optimal storage.
- Process remote‑sensing data (LiDAR, satellite, hyperspectral, aerial photography) including point‑cloud classification, elevation surface generation and mosaic creation.
- Maintain relational databases, role profiles, access controls and support Open data standards.
- Develop solutions in Microsoft Azure Cloud and provide technical training and support to team members.
- Serve as a member of the incident response team, staying on‑call to address incidents and support business continuity.
- Engage in continuous professional development and explore new technologies to enhance delivery.
- High competence in GIS, EO and geospatial data analysis and management.
- Advanced GIS skills – ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, FME; advanced coding in R and/or Python.
- Experience with GIS Enterprise systems (e.g., ESRI Enterprise) and configuration of SQL geodatabase servers.
- Proficiency in spatial data standards, quality assurance, metadata management and large‑volume raster handling.
- Strong remote‑sensing knowledge – LiDAR, optical imagery, coordinate systems, GNSS timing and data accuracy considerations.
- Desirable:
Microsoft Azure Cloud fundamentals and Microsoft Power Platform development skills.
Base location:
Bath/Bristol. The successful candidate will work from the Bath office at least once per week. The role is full‑time with flexibility for alternative working patterns, including job share.
Role requires a UK Security Check (SC) clearance. Candidates must have lived in the UK for the past 5 years and can provide a verifiable employment history. Visa sponsorship is not available.
