As a Senior Safety Engineer, you'll play a vital part in ensuring the safe operation and continued availability of the UK's submarine fleet. This is an opportunity to contribute directly to nationally important programmes that safeguard the country's continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent. Day-to-day, you'll join our Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) team, where your technical leadership will guide complex safety engineering tasks, support system changes, and influence major engineering decisions that underpin defence capability.

Responsibilities
  • Leading safety management activities and delivering high-quality technical outputs aligned with the current support contract framework.
  • Producing reviews and providing technical assurance on complex documentation.
  • Representing SSE at safety meetings and committees, working with a broad network of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managing safety-related project activities while adapting to changing priorities across engineering programmes.
  • Mentoring and developing Safety Engineers across the organisation, helping to advance capability and best practice.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Applies Engineering concepts and theories to deliver the development designs, calculations and technical solutions across a range of applications for Babcock products and services across the Engineering Product Lifecycle. An experienced Engineer, directly accountable for designs, calculations and technical solutions. Able to work under own initiative to produce high quality outputs. Capable of managing others and/or delivery of engineering and technical activities, through the application of process, domain knowledge and experience.

Can apply a wider range of knowledge to complex situations. Provides mentoring to others.

Requirements
  • Strong understanding of Safety and Environmental Management principles within the submarine environment.
  • Experience in submarine operations or demonstrable knowledge of submarine systems and engineering principles.
  • Project management experience, including delivery of technical outputs within contractual frameworks.
  • Proven technical report-writing capability on complex engineering topics.
  • Understanding of Federated Safety Cases and associated artefacts.
Qualifications
  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in a STEM discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, or actively progressing toward chartership.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
