We’re looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer or Senior Engineering Geologist to join our Ground Engineering team in Bristol. Bring your technical expertise and innovative mindset, whether from a traditional background or unconventional experience that adds fresh value.

You will be based in the AECOM Bristol Office and work closely with colleagues from across the UK & Ireland.

• Delivery: Take day‑to‑day responsibility for project delivery, ensuring technical quality and adherence to budget and programme.
• Provide Expertise: Active input to team/client technical review meetings, owning decisions and presenting alternative ideas and concepts.
• Commercial: Maintain client satisfaction, develop fee proposals and bids for internal and external clients.
• Mentoring: Own personal and professional development and on‑the‑job mentoring of junior staff.

The role suits a candidate who can apply geotechnical design independently, support junior team members, budget/programme deliverables, and lead the geotechnical input to projects from desk study and feasibility through to ground investigation, interpretation, and final design, including specifications, reports, and drawings.

• BEng / MEng in Civil Engineering or BSc and/or MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology.
• Chartered Engineer (IEng/CEng) or Geologist (CGeol) status is preferred or on track to achieve within the next year.
• Strong knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practices.
• Understanding of current design codes, standards and best practices in geotechnical design, and openness to innovative methods.
• Collaboration skills in project delivery, work‑winning and client satisfaction.
• Knowledge of ground condition interpretation, parametric assessment and correlation methods.
• Familiarity with data management software such as gINT or Open Ground is advantageous.
• Well‑rounded experience in geotechnical design (earthworks, foundations, retaining structures, slope stabilisation) with strong analytical skills and confidence in design software such as Slope/W and Wallap.
• Experience producing geotechnical analysis and design packages, including drawings, risk assessments, specifications and reports.
• Application of CDM Regulations / Safety in Design in a design and ground investigation environment.
• Experience with standards and processes in specialised fields such as highways or railways is desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for producing clear reports and confident presentations.
• Clean driving licence.
• Willingness to travel throughout the UK.
