Senior​/Principal Structural Engineer - Healthcare

We are looking for a Structural Principal Engineer to join our UK Global Healthcare Division. The role involves developing structural concepts and design philosophies for healthcare projects across the UK and internationally.

The successful candidate will contribute to advisory and design solutions for the healthcare sector, working on projects such as Hillerød Hospital, Cambridge Children’s Hospital, Royal Marsden and Shrewsbury & Telford Women and Children’s Hospital.

Your key responsibilities will be:

• Support senior management with the leadership and development of the UK Healthcare Team of Structural Engineers
• Develop and agree on structural concepts and design philosophies
• Inspire and support engineers and technicians on projects
• Liaise with clients and collaborators, representing Ramboll at project meetings
• Manage design work from concept to detailed design, ensuring technical excellence and outstanding client service
• Collaborate with colleagues from other engineering disciplines (MEP, civils, geo‑tech)
• Raise the profile and reputation of the UK Healthcare Team
• Communicate designs to team members and construction partners
• Implement best‑practice procedures to enhance sustainable, zero‑carbon, innovative design services
• Visit sites to support structural design development or review contract works in progress
• Take an active role in technical groups and team meetings to support continuous improvement
• Take ownership of and deliver on team improvement initiatives

Key qualifications and capabilities include:

• Demonstrable experience with UK healthcare sector projects, such as hospital construction
• Degree level education in a relevant engineering discipline
• Chartered Engineer status or a pathway to achieve it
• Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects of varying size and complexity
• Understanding of project commercial and technical risks
• Experience with digital and parametric design, and digital design innovation
• Knowledge of assessment, retrofit, and alteration of existing structures
• Experience in construction supervision, building investigation, and structural testing
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts in plain language
• Able to motivate and inspire confidence both internally and externally across geographical borders
• Capacity to work autonomously on all technical aspects of the discipline
