Lead Engineer – Yate, Bristol
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 per annum
Hours: 39.0hrs per week (Mon‑Thur 08:00‑16:30, Fri 08:00‑15:30)
Type: Permanent, Start: ASAP
Responsibilities- Lead the technical design process, from concept to production.
- Design and develop new mechanical products and improve existing ones, including agricultural and industrial equipment.
- Produce accurate 3D models, assemblies, 2D manufacturing drawings and perform FEA and engineering calculations.
- Collaborate with production, quality, purchasing, suppliers, customers and senior management to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost‑effective and compliant.
- Support production with technical queries, build issues, design improvements and resolve engineering-related problems.
- Review and improve existing designs for strength, cost, reliability and manufacturability.
- Maintain engineering records, drawings, revisions and documentation.
- Strong working knowledge of Solid Works (essential).
- Experience with FEA and structural analysis.
- Solid mechanical engineering background with proven experience in mechanical design.
- Ability to produce high‑quality manufacturing drawings and practical understanding of fabrication, machining, welding, hydraulics and assembly.
- Independent self‑starter with ownership of technical decisions.
- Strong problem‑solving, communication and commercial awareness skills.
- Experience with Fusion 360.
- Experience with hydraulic systems and agricultural machinery or mechanical handling equipment.
- Knowledge of compliance, testing, type approval or product validation.
- Experience improving legacy designs and production processes.
- Familiarity with ERP systems or engineering change control processes.
