C. Our portfolio comprises six major Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC (MEH) installation projects with a combined value exceeding 150m, delivering complex works across both primary circuit and main control room environments. As our business continues to grow, we are looking to strengthen our Project Controls capability by appointing an experienced Senior Project Cost Controller / Cost Engineer/ Project Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic organisation and play a key role in shaping and embedding industry-leading cost management practices across a significant nuclear project portfolio.
Job description
We are seeking a proactive and commercially aware Cost Controller or Cost Engineer who is passionate about cost management and continuous improvement. This role is far more than producing monthly reports. We need someone capable of interrogating cost data, identifying emerging issues and opportunities, providing meaningful insight to Project Managers, and driving improved project performance. The successful candidate will take ownership of cost forecasting, budget management, cashflow forecasting, earned value management (EVM), performance analysis and reporting across a portfolio of projects valued at over 150m.
They will also play a key role in developing our cost control maturity, implementing best practice processes, and mentoring junior Project Controls professionals to enable us to move beyond reporting to provide meaningful business insight and recommendations. Given the nature of our self-delivered EPC model, a significant proportion of project costs relate to direct labour, materials and consumables, and plant and equipment We therefore need someone who can blend the above budgeting, forecasting and EVM skills with hands on proactive daily and weekly monitoring of purchase orders, timesheets, expenses and site progress and productivity.
Own the Cost Control sub-function within Project Controls by:
- Setting the standards and procedures for cost control across all projects;
- Develop the tools and templates used for cost control across all projects;
- Be responsible for identifying and correcting deviations from the above tools and procedures
- Be responsible for the alignment and upskilling of all staff (within and without the Project Controls function) in cost control through training, guides and communities of practice;
Co-ordinate and manage all activities within the cost control sub-discipline delivered through Cost Controllers and Project Controllers, such as:
- Manage the structure and content of SAP projects including creating projects and ensuring project & WBS adherence with business and project standards
- Utilise SAP to extract data and produce cost reports across the project portfolio, including centralised reporting such as the PFR/ CCR cycle and Cost of Non Quality (CoNQ);
- Provide interrogation, assurance and enhanced analysis of cost data on projects, providing consolidated assessments to project, programme and portfolio managers;
- Be actively involved in the development of estimates and costings for tender projects and maintain centralised supporting data such as norms and productivity rates;
