The role

As a Principal Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll be the technical authority for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) activities within our Naval Nuclear business. Working on complex and cutting-edge defence programmes, you'll lead the delivery of EMC support and testing activities that help ensure some of the UK's most important naval platforms remain safe, compliant, and mission ready.

You'll collaborate with engineers, technical specialists, and Ministry of Defence stakeholders while helping to drive continuous improvement and the future growth of EMC capability across the business.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to Lead a team of engineers and lead engineers delivering EMC testing and support projects.

Manage the scoping, planning, scheduling, and budgeting of EMC testing activities.

Drive continuous improvement across EMC support, testing processes, and engineering best practice.

Collaborate with internal teams and customer stakeholders to improve project outcomes and performance.

Grow EMC capability and supporting the development of future engineering opportunities.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based at Babcock Technology Centre, Bristol. Hybrid working patterns are available

Essential experience of the Principal Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer Subject Matter Expert knowledge of DEF STAN 59-411.Strong understanding of electromagnetic compatibility principles, standards, and theory.

Experience working with the Ministry of Defence Submarine Delivery Agency environment and stakeholder landscape.

Experience authoring EMC Control Plans and associated technical documentation.

Experience developing EMC design policies, including cable routing and segregation guidance.  Qualifications for the Principal Electromagnetic Compatibility EngineerHNC in Electrical or Electronic Engineering plus relevant industry experience, or a Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.

Professionally registered as, or actively working towards becoming, a Chartered Engineer with a relevant professional institution

Security Clearance The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
