Are you an experienced safety practitioner ready to lead specialist work in weapons, ordnance, munitions and explosives? Do you want to shape assurance approaches, guide teams and influence decisions across high-hazard, conventional and novel technologies?

We're expanding our defence WOME safety capability. Join us to lead safety engineering and assurance from acquisition and platform integration through trials, qualification, operation and through-life support.

AtkinsRéalis is a world-class engineering services and nuclear organisation delivering complex and critical programmes across defence, aerospace, nuclear and other highly regulated sectors.

Join our established Safety & Environmental Assurance community; knowledge sharing and collaboration are at the heart of what we do.

You'll benefit from:

  • Formal technical assurance, peer review and access to experienced WOME safety specialists.

We aim to align assignments with your skills, interests and career goals while balancing client and business needs. We welcome senior WOME specialists and safety leaders from industry, MOD and the Armed Forces, including those transferring from air, land or maritime domains and those returning after a career break.

Assignments could include:

  • Leading explosives safety and ordnance assurance across storage, transport, handling, operation, maintenance, disposal and other through-life activities.
Your role
  • You will lead proportionate WOME safety engineering and assurance across conventional, novel and complex defence projects. You will provide technical direction and trusted advice, develop robust safety arguments and evidence strategies, assure outputs and help clients make informed decisions across the capability lifecycle.
  • Lead WOME safety work packages, balancing technical quality, schedule, cost and client priorities.
  • Lead the development, maintenance and assurance of WOME safety cases, safety assessments, safety management plans, hazard logs and supporting evidence.
  • Provide technical direction on hazard identification, risk assessment, safety requirements and the demonstration that risks are reduced to a tolerable level.
  • Shape evidence strategies supporting acquisition, integration, trials, qualification, acceptance, introduction into service and continued operation.
  • Advise clients, operators, designers, delivery partners, suppliers, trials organisations and assurance authorities on proportionate WOME safety solutions.
  • Lead or support safety working groups, hazard reviews, assurance reviews and multidisciplinary engineering decisions.
  • Review and assure technical outputs, guide teams and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Help develop future work by understanding emerging client needs, strengthening relationships and supporting follow-on activity where appropriate.
