Lakota is a proud UK Real Living Wage Employer and is committed to diversity, inclusivity, and supporting the local community. This flexible, paid apprenticeship is ideal for students, part-time workers, or anyone looking to gain hands-on experience in live sound, lighting, and event production alongside other commitments.

You’ll train on real club nights and live events, working closely with experienced technicians in a professional venue environment.

About the Role

The Sound & Lighting Technician Apprentice supports the delivery of Lakota’s club nights, live shows, and special events. You’ll assist with audio and lighting systems, with training tailored to your interests and strengths as you develop.

Shifts are primarily evenings and nights. Applicants must be able to commit to at least one regular evening shift per week on either a Friday or Saturday. Additional shifts may be available depending on the event schedule.

This role is ideal for someone at the start of their technical career, offering real venue experience without the requirement of full-time hours.

Requirements
  • Strong interest in sound, lighting, music, or live events
  • Ability to commit to at least one evening shift per week (Friday or Saturday)
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from senior technicians
  • Comfortable with physical work, including lifting and moving equipment
  • Good communication skills with a positive, reliable attitude
  • No previous experience required – enthusiasm and curiosity are essential
Responsibilities
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of sound and lighting systems
  • Support sound checks, lighting focus, and live event operation
  • Help patch and manage audio, power, and DMX cabling safely
  • Monitor systems during events and report technical issues
  • Assist with maintenance, testing, and cleaning of technical equipment
  • Follow health and safety procedures at all times
  • Support the wider production team during busy event periods
Opportunity to Gain Wider Production Experience

Depending on interest and venue needs, apprentices may have the opportunity to gain exposure to other areas of live production, including:

  • LED screens and visual playback systems
  • Video content and basic show control
  • Production coordination and event planning support
  • Touring artist advancing and technical liaison
  • General venue production workflows

These opportunities are offered where appropriate as part of ongoing development but are not guaranteed.

  • Paid apprenticeship role with flexible shift patterns
  • Hands-on experience in a professional nightclub and live events venue
  • Training and mentoring from experienced sound, lighting, and production staff
  • Ability to work alongside university studies or part-time employment
  • Clear progression opportunities within Lakota’s technical and production teams
  • Behind-the-scenes access to major club nights, touring artists, and live events
Why Join Lakota?
