Director Business Development – Virgin Money
Location: Various locations across the UK – London & South area, Midland’s area, Yorkshire & Northeast area, Northwest area, East Scotland area, or West Scotland area.
Job Summary: Exciting opportunities exist within our Strategic Finance team. Our team supports commercial, corporate, PLC and private‑equity‑backed businesses across the region and the UK. This role plays an important part in maintaining a strong market presence for the Bank, originating and executing new Commercial Business and Mid Corporate opportunities, and generating additional income and strong returns for the Bank while delivering a simply brilliant customer experience.
WhatYou’ll Be Doing
- Generating new opportunities targeted at large commercial and mid‑corporate businesses within your geographical area.
- Aligning with the Bank’s risk appetite at all times.
- Accounting for risk and compliance, identifying signs of stress and risk to minimise exposure to bad and doubtful debt.
- Acting according to the strategy and growth plan to optimise income and build a targeted portfolio through effective origination and execution of high‑quality lending opportunities.
- Analysing and interpreting accounts for new deals, calculating key ratios, interpreting cash‑flow forecasts, credit modelling and sensitivity techniques, and assessing management teams according to best practice in Strategic Finance, in line with Dilligencia Training methodology and the credit risk and control framework.
- Structuring and recommending commercial/mid‑corporate lending proposals for credit decisioning.
- Demonstrating strong organisational skills and effective project management ability.
- Establishing and maintaining external professional relationships to produce quality referrals through a two‑way relationship model.
- A background in a Business Banking team.
- A proven track record in originating and securing commercial lending opportunities.
- Experience managing all aspects of a deal process from inception to completion – including detailed credit papers, negotiations with management teams, advisors and funding partners, review of due‑diligence reports, oversight of complex legal processes and the completion process.
- Strong capability in building media relationships and generating opportunities, including writing for journals and preparing publications.
- A business degree or significant financial services experience within a Business Lending environment.
- Detailed and up‑to‑date knowledge of UK financial markets with a focus on the Commercial Banking segment.
- Expert knowledge of banking products and services.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of financial analysis and modelling tools and techniques.
- Relevant vocational financial services qualification – e.g. Chartered Institute of Bankers, Chartered Accountant.
- In‑depth understanding of risk and compliance requirements relevant to the role.
