Executive Officer

Location: Home-based with travel to, from and around the parish for meetings and operational duties.

Contract: Permanent, part‑time, 27 hours per week

Salary: SCP 33-36 (£44,075-£47,181 pro rata for part time)

Pill & Easton‑in‑Gordano is a well‑connected parish with a strong sense of community and a council that takes its responsibilities seriously. With nearly 5,000 residents, active local groups and a growing set of duties, we are looking for an Executive Officer (Parish Clerk & RFO) who can provide steady, professional leadership and help us deliver for the people and places we serve.

Key responsibilities include supporting councillors in navigating complex issues, including the implications of local government devolution, ensuring sound governance and financial stewardship, and turning strategic priorities into practical outcomes. These responsibilities also involve applying the Neighbourhood Plan in planning responses, progressing the refurbishment of the playing fields, supporting community initiatives and managing the local impacts of Metro West. The role requires working closely with residents, volunteers, local organisations and partners across North Somerset and the wider region.

  • Experience in governance‑led or regulated environments
  • Financial management capability
  • Confidence working with partners, contractors and community groups
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • A commitment to public service, transparency and community engagement
  • Ability to balance perspectives in a political environment and motivated by making a visible difference in a parish setting
  • Preferably holding CiLCA/Level 4 in Community Governance, or equivalent experience and willingness to work towards it with support
