Overview

Applicants will need to have appropriate post qualification experience in working with adults who have breathing pattern disorders/ inducible laryngeal obstruction (ILO).

The Ideal Candidate Should Have
  • Considerable post qualification experience working with adults who have voice and breathing pattern disorders
  • Experience of independent management of voice and breathing pattern disorders caseload, including complex and highly specialist cases
  • Leadership and mentoring skills to support the team and guide junior staff.
  • Experience in service evaluation and research.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, families, and a multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide a highly specialist speech and language therapy (SLT) assessment, diagnosis and treatment service to adults with breathing pattern disorder/inducible laryngeal obstruction (ILO)
  • To work as a member of the respiratory multidisciplinary team and be present in the complex airways clinic, contributing to the diagnosis of ILO and related conditions
  • To identify patients presenting to the above clinic who would benefit from Speech and Language Therapy (SLT input) and to provide education and therapy to these patients in order to help them manage their condition
  • As required, to pass nasendoscopes as part of the assessment of ILO and related conditions following training
  • To collect data to evaluate the benefit of this service and to contribute to future service planning
  • To pursue and acquire knowledge and expertise for highly specialist clinical practice with the above client group
  • To provide education to other SLTs and health professionals in this clinical areas as required
