Job Summary
Ward Clerk – Permanent Post
2x Positions – Part Time, 30 hours per week
Enthusiastic and self‑motivated individuals are required to provide clerical and administration cover across all Acute Medical Wards. Successful applicants will demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to interact professionally with patients, relatives, and other staff groups, and the ability to work under pressure in busy clinical environments. Extensive previous experience in an administrative role that includes face‑to‑face work with the general public is an essential requirement.
MainDuties
- Provide the first point of contact for the ward, unit or department for all enquiries received from patients, relatives/carers, trust staff and external agencies, ensuring correct management of each case.
- Ensure that patient notes are kept up to date and in good order.
- Ensure all relevant documents, including tests and reports, are correctly inserted into patient notes while in the ward/department and that notes are up to date before patient departure.
- Be responsible for checking e‑discharge summaries following patient discharge or transfer, including follow‑up procedures or appointments.
Essential Skills

Essential Experience
- A minimum of 6 months’ administration experience or face‑to‑face work with the general public and clinical teams.
Essential Qualifications
- 4 GCSEs Grade D or above, including Mathematics and English, or equivalent (e.g., Level 2 literacy and numeracy qualifications).
