We are recruiting for an Independent Non-Medical Prescriber to join our Adult ADHD Team. We are a busy, supportive and motivated service working with adults with ADHD who present with a range of complex needs. Our team is committed to delivering evidence-based assessment, treatment and medication management in line with NICE guidance.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Nurse Prescriber to take on a senior clinical role within an established multidisciplinary team. You will provide specialist prescribing, medication titration and physical health monitoring, as well as offering clinical advice and support to colleagues.

You will be well supported by the Team Manager and have access to regular clinical guidance from our Consultant Psychiatrist.

Main duties of the job

To work as an Independent Non-Medical Prescriber in partnership with the service user and act as lead specialist in Non-Medical Prescribing for service users with enduring substance misuse conditions.

Conducting assessments on service users, care co-ordinating, long term casework, purchasing of services and supervision of staff are some of the core activities of the post. Working collaboratively with other disciplines and other teams in the prison and community are essential to ensure a comprehensive service is provided to the local population. As a senior member of the team the post holder will need to demonstrate sound leadership skills and be able to manage high levels of responsibility.

Job responsibilities

Provide specialist ADHD prescribing, medication titration and physical health monitoring in line with NICE NG87, BNF, NMC standards and Trust policy.

Manage an autonomous caseload of adults with ADHD, including complex presentations.

Undertake ADHD assessments, risk assessments and safeguarding responsibilities, maintaining clear, accurate and timely clinical documentation.

Offer clinical advice, supervision and support to junior staff and contribute to MDT discussions.

Work collaboratively with the Consultant Psychiatrist, MDT, GPs and partner agencies to ensure safe shared care prescribing and continuity of care.

Deliver evidence based interventions within scope of practice, including medication management and psychoeducation.

Support carers with information and guidance to help them understand and support the service user.

Monitor treatment outcomes, adjust plans as needed and ensure timely patient flow through the service.

Provide leadership within the team when required and promote effective, collaborative team working.

Maintain professional standards, competencies and safe practice in accordance with NMC and organisational requirements.

Person Specification Education & Qualification
  • NMC/HCPC Registration
  • Post Qualification training
Skills & Abilities
  • Approved Medication Management training (this incorporates CBT techniques, motivational interviewing and psycho-education).
  • At least 3 years post qualifying experience in Substance misuse, 2 at Band 6 or above.
  • At least 6 months experience working as a Supplementary Nurse Prescriber.
  • Experience as a CPN
Non Medical Prescriber Clinical Leadership
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team
  • Supervision of staff both individually and in group settings
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Experience of leading clinical teams
