Job Summary
The role of Specialty Training Programme Director for Core Anaesthetics and ACCS Anaesthetics within the South West School of Anaesthesia will work with and support the Head of School for Anaesthesia and ICM and Head of School for ACCS Severn, leading the delivery of a wide range of functions aligned to the NHS England mandate and long‑term workforce plan.
The position will focus on improving learner supervision, assessment and experience, engaging faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future.
The appointment is a part‑time secondment to NHS England, alongside existing employment with an NHS Trust in the South West. It is a senior educator position on secondment until 31 March 2027.

Job ResponsibilitiesLead the delivery of educational functions for Core Anaesthetics and ACCS Anaesthetics, supporting the Heads of School for Anaesthesia, ICM and ACCS. Oversee learner supervision, assessment and experience, engaging faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes. Provide leadership and coordinate with a multi‑professional team.
Qualifications and Training- Primary clinical healthcare qualification.
- Attendance at courses aimed at supporting educational development (e.g., educator courses, Train the Trainer).
- Consultant currently working in the South West.
- Considerable experience working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context.
- Demonstrable track record of delivery in both service and education.
- Demonstrable leadership skills and an ability to influence and motivate others.
- Ability to quickly establish personal and professional credibility with colleagues and other key stakeholders.
