As part of the Quality Control department you will be involved in the testing of novel gene therapy clinical‑grade products, such as plasmid DNA, at the Clinical Biotechnology Centre on behalf of NHSBT, in support of ground‑breaking clinical trials. You will undertake assays to support the in‑process and final product testing of gene therapy products within a GMP facility. There are many opportunities for career advancement and progression within NHSBT, from managing a laboratory section to becoming a consultant lead responsible for the entire laboratory service.
You may specialise in an area vital to the operation of modern manufacturing and/or diagnostic services, training and education, or research and development. We will provide you with an extensive induction and training programme and ongoing development to support you in your role and achieving your career ambitions.
- Perform molecular and micro‑biology techniques for the analysis of plasmid DNA and gene therapy products.
- Problem‑solve independently and as part of a team within a GMP facility.
- Provide cover during times of operational difficulty, with appropriate notice.
- Degree in Biomedical Science or an appropriate science degree.
- Willingness to undertake continuing development and training as required.
- Demonstrated commitment to own continued professional development (CPD) and experience using a range of laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge and some experience with molecular biology, cell culture and/or chromatography techniques.
- Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) or equivalent systems.
- 27 days annual leave (pro rata for part‑time), increasing to 29 days after 5 years of service and to 33 days after 10 years, plus Bank Holidays.

Band 5 – £32,073 to £39,043 a year. Fixed‑term contract of 12 months. Full‑time.
