Job Summary
Applicants are invited to apply for a one-year fixed term role (with likely extension) as Obstetric Lead for the South West Maternal Medicine Network. The role is suited to an applicant with a CCT in obstetrics. The position carries 1PA and will commence in April 2026.
We will review all SWMNN Network lead roles in November 2026, with likely opportunity to continue beyond that date.
Main Duties- Lead and participate in MDT meetings
- Demonstrate leadership within the SWMMN
- Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings
- Attend rapid review meetings for maternal deaths referred to the SWMMN
- Liaise with SWMMN obstetric, medical, anaesthetic, midwifery and governance leads about governance and educational activities

- CCT (or equivalent)
- Maintain full registration with the GMC
- Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS)
- Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)
- Evidence of recent CME or reasonable training progression at this stage of career
- Experience in audit projects and written reporting
- Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues and political context within which we operate
- Proven teaching ability
- Willingness to undertake teaching of medical undergraduates and postgraduates
- Proven track record in research
- Evidence of relevant publications in peer‑reviewed journals
- Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
- Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships within a team
- Ability to inspire, motivate and develop junior medical staff
- Ability to work independently as well as part of the Women and Children’s Directorate, balancing individual and organisational requirements
