This is a key role within the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) where you will be responsible for all aspects of decontamination of medical devices, contributing to the clinical care of patients. The role includes receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packing and sterilisation of reusable medical devices and recording all tasks in the tracking and tracing database.
The post holder will undertake all on‑the‑job training necessary to carry out duties safely, work as part of a team and communicate effectively.
Shift pattern:
Monday–Friday 07:45–15:45 & 13:00–21:00 including bank holidays; weekends 08:00–16:00 & 13:00–21:00. The department will be operating 24/7 in the near future.

Main duties of the job General- Inspect the cleanliness and correctness of equipment and check items for durability.
- Participate in the packing of surgical instruments, soft packs and comprehensive theatre packs.
- Learn about the safety and operational aspects of machinery used in the department.
- Perform any other duties deemed reasonable.
- Participate in regular reviews of your own training programme in line with departmental service development.
- Identify problems that occur within CSSD and bring them to the attention of a supervisor.
- Attend training sessions and updates scheduled for departmental staff.
- Seek advice and guidance from senior staff as required.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Carry out the daily tests on the department's machinery.
- Safely use the heat‑sealing machine.
- Participate in the decontamination, packing and sterilisation of contaminated items that arrive in the department.
- Achieve completion of the department's competence objectives.
- Commit to continuous self‑development.
