Overview

A specialist independent provision located in Pilning, South Gloucestershire is seeking an experienced and dedicated Clinical Psychologist to join their multi-disciplinary team. The setting supports children and young people aged 7-19 with Autism, anxiety, social and emotional needs, and other complex conditions. The school aims to develop the cognitive, emotional and functional skills of young people, preparing them for adulthood and greater independence.

Main Purpose of the Role

• To apply psychological models and practices to enhance learning, emotional regulation and independence in young people.
• To provide clinical input that enables staff to effectively support communication, behaviour and emotional needs.
• To reduce students’ reliance on adults through therapeutic strategies, behaviour support and skills development.

Key Duties

• Assess the psychological needs of young people using appropriate approaches and tools.
• Work alongside external professionals involved in the care of the student.
• Contribute to multi-disciplinary planning and coordination of behaviour and emotional support.
• Research and promote best practice in Positive Behaviour Support and oversee its implementation across the school.
• Provide staff training on behaviour support, mental health, communication and related topics.
• Support parents and families through guidance, training and communication.
• Develop and deliver therapeutic group interventions as required.
• Provide individual therapeutic interventions tailored to specific needs.
• Produce progress updates, treatment evaluations and risk assessments for multi-disciplinary and priority meetings.
• Undertake any additional duties that fall within the role and personal competencies.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Education and Training

• Postgraduate qualification in Psychology.
• Registered and accredited with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist.

Experience

• Experience working with young people requiring high levels of support and those with Special Educational Needs.
• Experience working with Autism and associated difficulties.
• Experience in school, college or care settings (desirable).
• Experience with in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience supervising or line-managing an Assistant Psychologist.
• Knowledge of current evidence-based practices.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to supervise, train and support staff.
• Ability to promote independence, dignity and effective communication for young people.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
• Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.
• Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and responsibilities.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusive practice.

Requirements of the Role

• Successful completion of all pre-employment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check.
